NewsNogales International A two-car collision west of Sonoita on June 24 left one person injured. Green Valley resident Erika Hill, 31, was flown by air ambulance to University Medical Center in Tucson where she was treated for injuries before being released. Emergency personnel from the Sonoita-Elgin Fire Department, Border Patrol and the Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to a two-car collision near the entrance to Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. Chief Joseph DeWolf of the Sonoita-Elgin Fire Department said that shortly before 7 a.m. emergency personnel responded to milepost 46 on State Route 83 near the entrance to Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. Officer Quentin G. Mehr of the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the accident occurred when a 2006 Toyota pick-up driven by Sahuarita resident Daniel Rodriguez, 32, was stopped behind a vehicle that was attempting to turn left from southbound SR 83 onto the road leading into the conservation area. Mehr said a 2005 Dodge passenger vehicle driven by Hill failed to stop for traffic and struck the rear of the Toyota pick-up.
