New phone book

not from GVCCC

A new phone directory being distributed in the Green Valley area is not the long-standing Green Valley Community Directory, and has not ties to the GVCCC.

The company that puts out the small book, called The Local Pages, is following up with automated phone calls and identifying itself as the publisher of the Green Valley Community Directory.

Sandi Richey, executive director of the Green Valley Community Coordinating Council, said her organization has no affiliation with the phone book.

Quiznos restaurant


closes in Sahuarita

A Quiznos sub restaurant in Sahuarita has closed, two months after filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Paul Okoro, who holds the franchise, opened the shop in May 2007 at Madera Marketplace, near the Wal-Mart Supercenter.

The store had been closed temporarily, but that became eventually became permanent.

There are two Subway shops in the same plaza.

Ellen Kramer, a spokeswoman for Quiznos corporate office in Colorado, said the chain is “interested in reopening every store that might be closed for whatever reason.”

“If there is a Quiznos location where there are some happy customers, we are very much interested in finding somebody to take over that space as soon possible,” she said.

There are more than 4,000 Quiznos in the United States.

The bankruptcy filing is under the name Jammin Investments LLC.

Pace is new

Rosemont chief

Rosemont Copper Co. has appointed Rod Pace president and chief executive officer.

Pace had served as vice president of operations and general manager for Rosemont since 2005. Before joining Rosemont, he oversaw the startup of mining operations for Washington Group International’s Mining Group as their vice president of North American operations. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1980.

Pace replaces Gil Clausen, who continues in his executive role for Augusta Resource Corp. and remains a director for Rosemont.

Bolano named CEO

of 2 hospitals

Carondelet Health Network has promoted Odette Bolano, RN, MHA, FACHE, to CEO of Tucson Heart Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital.

In her new position, Bolano provides the strategic, financial, and operational oversight for both hospitals.

Bolano brings nearly two decades of senior leadership experience in non-profit and for-profit health-care environments, most recently in a Catholic, faith-based health system. She joined Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital as chief operating officer in 2005 and was appointed chief executive officer in 2007.

Bolano holds a master’s degree in Health Administration of Health Services from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University.

Airport Authority

pushes Tucson

The Tucson Airport Authority announced it will launch a new marketing effort dubbed Fly Tucson Airport: Closer. Smarter. Easier. The campaign is designed to educate the airlines and the community about the advantages of flying from Tucson International Airport.

“Demand is what drives additional airline service to Tucson, and we intend to take this message directly to local businesses and organizations that have control over employee travel itineraries, as well as the hospitality industry, which often can influence convention, meeting and other visitor travel itineraries,” said TAA’s President and CEO Bonnie Allin.

Banking group

elects board chair

The Arizona Bankers Association has elected its 2009-10 board of directors and placed Commerce Bank of Arizona President Randy Yenerich of Tucson as chairman.

Yenerich oversees Commerce Bank of Arizona’s five branches in Tucson, Green Valley and Tubac. It is the largest independent bank in Pima County and the only banking institution in northern Santa Cruz County.

He began his career 50 years ago as a bank messenger at Mid-City National Bank of Chicago and worked up to president. He also served as executive vice president of Mid-City’s parent organization, Mid-City Financial Co., a $1.8 billion holding company that owned five banks in Illinois, Oklahoma and Texas.
