SC Seniors conquer Del Lago

The Santa Cruz Seniors Golf club could not have asked for better weather or a better golf course as they traveled north to Vail and the beautiful Del Lago Golf Course on June 5, for their monthly gathering.

The sky was overcast all morning long; the winds didn’t start blowing until after the tournament; and all the groups finished in 4:15 or less.

President Bill Rathburn led his team to victory as he, Dick McGinty, Bob Childs and Bill Stewart shot 22-under par, carding the winning two-net best-ball score of 122.

Close behind at 124 came Mike Kilby, Bill Peake, Max McCartney, and John Carlson.

Winning third with a tie-breaking card-off was Larry Poe, Ed Wanek, Paul Witzlib, and Hayward Sumner, who nosed out John Salvatore, Art Schott, Dick Kraabel, and Loren Pocock — both teams shooting 125.

Last but not least, winning fifth place with a score of 129 after a card-off was Bob Nicholas, John Lamb, Will Bernard, and Duane Nealy, as they nosed out Keith Karstad, Jim Hudson, Ed Hunt, and John Reed.

Four closest-to-the-pin awards were presented and the winners were Warren Starnes, Nick Charles, Bob Laine, and John Lamb.

The July event will be at San Ignacio Golf club on the third.
