Roy was born in Bertrand, Mich. on Jan. 15, 1934. He graduated from Mooseheart High School, Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1956, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Epsilon (Pre-medical Honorary Fraternity), and the University of Michigan Medical School in 1960, where he was a member of the Galens Honorary Medical Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha, National Honorary Medical Society. He was the Founder of California Emergency Physicians and was a Partner Emeritus in MedAmerica, Inc. Dr. Stambaugh served as a Medical Officer (Captain) in the U.S. Army and as a Medical Officer (Lt. Col.) in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He completed Flight Training at NAS in Pensacola, Fla. and was certified as a Flight Surgeon for the Army, Navy and the Air Force. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Ohio State University Alumni and the Michigan University Alumni. Dr. Stambaugh is survived by his loving partner of 20 years, Carolyn Fowler; former wife Joyce Wilson Stambaugh; six children: CDR Terry A. Stambaugh, M.D. USN (retired), Kevin S. Stambaugh, Kim M. Stambaugh, Bonnie J. Stambaugh Clary, Ambuja Stambaugh Joy and Michael L. Stambaugh; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister Marion M. Eldred; brother Everett 0. Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arizona Cancer Center, Better Than Ever Program, U of A, P.O.
