Jacqui Smith is an herbal specialist with decades of learning from the best.

You’ll find her at the Green Valley Farmer’s Market every Wednesday on the level above the music. What’s that? You didn’t know about any music? Our market has a free concert every Wednesday morning.

Jacqui’s Desert Wind Herb and Tea Company may be familiar if you’re a Tubac shopper. She’s enlarging her space there by moving into the Old Bookstore so if you miss her at the market, call for her summer hours in Tubac at (520) 398-2588.

Jacqui is knowledgeable about herbs grown here in our Desert Southwest as well as those from far-away lands. Not only does she know her herbs, she’s able to procure whatever you may need within a short period of time, even if she doesn’t have it in stock. In addition to herbs, Jacqui carries a wide variety of teas that range from medicinal varieties to teas we are familiar with and regularly drink. She always carries Arizona Cactus Ranch’s Prickly Pear Juice.

“It’s a helpful tonic,” Jacqui says, “Scientific research has shown it helps lower cholesterol and regulate blood sugar.”

In addition to all this, Jacqui handcrafts soaps from time-tested recipes (with and without herbal additions). She skillfully crafts tinctures, tonics and salves about which old-timer’s would say, “It’ll cure what ails you.”

Some are for general use, others she creates for your particular concerns. All are designed to help our bodies achieve equilibrium, our optimum degree of health. Stop by and ask her any question. Jacqui recently added another natural, herbal body care line. Of course she crafts these herself as well. It includes bath salts, hair care products, soaps, salt and sugar scrubs. These beautifully packaged, handcrafted items make an attractive gift for yourself or a friend. After many requests, Jacqui is also starting classes in herbal techniques such as soap making, see her for all the details.

Father’s Day is Sunday. Why not offer Dads and Granddads something herbal and natural? Jacqui’s son encouraged her to create some “more manfully scented” soaps for shaving and bathing. Or there’s a great gift for everyone and something all of us need regularly, notes and postcards with photographs of herbs and flowers. Most of the photos were taken by, you guessed it, Jacqui.

If you go
