A man who died in a rollover accident on Interstate 19 on Monday has been identified.

Edgar Davis, 29, of Rio Rico died after he lost control of his minivan while headed south on Interstate 19, drove through the median and rolled at least twice before ending up in the northbound lanes.

Davis was thrown from the vehicle and was dead at the scene south of the Canoa Road exit, according to Sgt. Kevin McNichols of the Arizona Highway Patrol.

The accident happened about 3:20 p.m., and Davis was not wearing a seat belt, according to authorities.

Several motorists stopped to help the man, McNichols said.

It was unknown how the man lost control of the van, which ended up on its roof.

Traffic was being diverted through the Canoa Rest Stop and back onto the interstate as of late afternoon.
