Social Security sniveling

Both your Sunday front page banner story and your editorial are really a bit whiney and don’t represent the facts accurately.

“Uncle Sam could be going for your Social Security check…,” “the thought of no cost of living…could crush them.” Indeed!

While it is true that there will be no cost of living increase for people on Social Security this year (and, yes, I do draw Social Security benefits), you don’t report on two points: one, the reason for no increase this year is the low or non-existent increase in the Consumer Price Index last year.

Second, last year we had a record increase in SSI benefits of over 5 percent, I recall closer to 6 percent.

Why did you not report that in the pandering article and editorial?

Good journalism reports facts and gives analysis; it doesn’t pander to readers’ emotions.

I have a plate on my front license plate mount on my car.

It reads “No Sniveling.” I bought it at a bar called J. J.s Cantina, in Rocky Point in Mexico. I kind of like it.

Do you want me to order one for the Green Valley News?
