The Santa Ritas Kiwanis Club has an ongoing recycle program that cuts down on waste while raising money for youth charities in the Green Valley-Sahuarita area.

Over the past 6 years, the group has collected and recycled more than 12,000 cartridges. Beginning in 2008, the club also began a program to recycle used cell phones.

Businesses, organizations, government agencies and individuals users are donating their old cell phones, empty used laser toner and inkjet printer cartridges plus cartridges for copiers and fax machines.

The club has turned these waste materials into more than $10,000 to be used for Kiwanis charities in Pima County.

Participating agencies include: Chase Bank, Community Food Bank of Green Valley, Joyner-Green Valley Library, La Posada, Green Valley News and Sun, M&I Bank, Good Shepherd Church, Green Valley Community Church, Risen Savior Lutheran Church, Pueblo Estates, Computer Club (Silver Springs), Quail Creek, Continental School and the GV Community Coordinating Council.
