May 11

As part of National Women’ Health Week, Dr. Amy Rosenberg will speak at 2 p.m. at the Joyner-Green Valley Library. Topics will include diagnosis and treatment for osteoporosis, hormone therapy and update on immunization requirements.

“Seasons of the Saguaro” will be described by Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum docent Jane Andrews Hedden at 11 a.m. at Casa de Esperanza’s Community Center, 780 S. Park Centre Ave. No charge. Information: 625-2273, Ext. 40.

Green Valley Wood Carvers meet at 8:30 a.m. at Friends In Deed, 301 W. Camino Casa Verde. Any wood carvers interested in an active carving club, or any person wishing to learn how to carve are welcome. Information: Don Moberg, 777-7182

Scandinavian Group will have a barbecue at 5 p.m. at the ramada at Esperanza Estates, Portillo and Ensalmo. Hot dogs, hamburgers, and beverage provided. Bring your place setting and a side dish, salad, appetizer or dessert to share.

Casa Paloma I Homeowners board meets at 9 a.m. at the CPI rec center. All interested persons invited to attend. Information: Chris Sarkela, 393-1210.

Foothills Townhouse IV Homeowners board meets at 9:15 a.m. at Bank of America meeting room.

Green Valley Rotary Club meets at 11:45 a.m. at St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, 600 S. La Canada Drive. La Frontera Center, serving those with mental health and/or substance disorders, will present “For the Love of Mariachi,” an introduction to Rotarians and guests of the celebration of all things mariachi. Green Valley Forum meets at 10 a.m. at East Center. Professor Al-Marayati of the University of Toledo will talk about the problems of the countries and the Islamic-Palestinian conflict. All GVR members and their eligible guests are welcome.

Kiwanis Club of Green Valley meets at 11:45 a.m. at Silver Springs, 500 W. Camino Encanto. Attorney Peter Schmerl will discuss 2009 changes to the estate tax law. Reservations, Jake Dangle, 991-6620.

Cactus Wren Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild meet in the Recreation Room at La Posada. Social time, 9:30 a.m., meeting at 10 a.m. An Amy Bunger DVD titled “A Closet Full of Stitches,” will be shown. Information: Linda Nettling, 393-8989.

Continental Vistas Property Owners Assn. board meets at 12:30 p.m. at the pool building. Information: Darlene Feil, 399-3760.

Fibromyalgia Support Group of Green Valley meets at 12:15 p.m. at Friends in Deed, 301 W. Camino Casa Verde. Bring a brown bag lunch and beverage. There will be a business meeting and sharing time over lunch. At 1 p.m. Patrick Dust, Ph.D., will speak on “Fibromyalgia: the Enigma and the Challenge.” This will be the last meeting until November. The Green Valley Branch of the AAUW meets at 10 a.m. at Desert Hills Center. Betty Stauffer, executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Tucson, will speak. Public welcome.
