‘Idyut’ drivers

Published: Tuesday, May 5, 2009 10:05 PM MST

A few months ago a woman wrote to the Green Valley News about people not turning into the inside lane when making a turn.

If these “idyuts” were all native to this area it could be a herding instinct, but I think I’ve figured it out!

Mr. Curb, who designs the streets in Green Valley/Sahuarita, not only has a fetish for curbs, he/she is obsessed with them.

No matter how you turn, if you don’t make an extremely wide turn, you will mangle your rear tires on a curb that sticks out too far. If you slow down to 5 mph to make the turn, then “Tailgater” is layin’ on the horn.

If you pull out far enough before turning to not hit your rear wheels, you’re in the illegal turning lane anyway.

Heaven forbid you turn right on red (after stopping) and an on-coming car is turning left in front of you! He/she demands to turn into the illegal lane!

The “maze” which Mr. Curb built into the parking lot north of the Walgreen’s store on Duval Mine Road, is a real gem, matching the one west of the new Fry’s in “curb REpeal.”

Fortunately, if you’re like me you can’t hear an ambulance siren let alone a “tailgater’s” horn.

And since my neck and shoulders are too “stoved up” to perform a textbook hand-over-hand steering wheel turn (we took driver’s ed instead of situational ethics), it doesn’t take long to realize I’m one of the “idyuts.”
