Clerical pomposity

Published: Tuesday, May 5, 2009 10:05 PM MST

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

Francis Lambert, retired clergyman, would have those who disagree with his religious views “relocate elsewhere if they find this too hard to accept.”

His geography is as confused as his history. This is America, not the Massachusetts Bay Colony! Clergymen don’t get to decide who stays and who must leave, or what we must believe or doubt about God.

I’m sure Mr. Lambert would have been happy banishing Roger Williams; or perhaps leading the Christians in Nauvoo as they cleansed its Mormons; or in more gentlemanly fashion, keeping the Jews out of the Country Club.

I want no part of his “Christian Nation.”

Nor do I, Mr. McCoy! Huzzah! For your comment.

The Reverend's comment, to me, eerily seems similar to what a devoted follower of the Taliban might write. "
