ColumnsLeo Leo’s mom, with whom he has lived all of his 4 years, is expecting a baby in several months and is having such a hard time with her pregnancy that her doctor says that she will probably need bed rest for the next few months. In addition, Leo’s dad works very long hours, so he isn’t home until late at night. Consequently, Leo has been getting hardly any attention and is awfully lonely. His mom loves him dearly, but she really feels that it would be best for him to find a new home where his person or people are home much of the time. Leo is a very handsome, short-haired, jet black gentleman who is declawed. He has a few “eccentric” traits - he loves to chew Q-tips that he finds in the bathroom wastebasket, and he finds nibbling on strings attached to clothing irresistible, but he will stop doing that if you just clap your hands and tell him “no.” Leo is very outgoing and social, loves to be held over your shoulder and give kisses, and to play fetch. He will make another family as happy as he made his first one, so won’t you do the same for Leo and take him home with you? Rudy Sad to say, Rudy’s been around the block a few times! He was found as a kitten back in late 2007, stayed with his rescuers for awhile (but allergies put an end to that), came to The Animal League of Green Valley, went to live with another family, but they didn’t have enough time for him, so he came back here one more time. Every night Rudy’s dreams are filled with hopes that someone (besides the volunteers, who adore him!) will fall madly in love with him and take him home. Although it hasn’t happened yet, he still has faith that it will happen some day! Rudy is a handsome, medium-sized, 3-year-old, buff tabby and white boy with a distinctive notched ear, who loves just about everyone (although he’s never been around kids). He loves to sit in your lap, cuddle, and have his stomach and head scratched and would love to lay his head on your pillow with you at night. Rudy would be so happy if you could open your home and your heart to him so that he never has to worry about moving again! Won’t you please make this the year Rudy’s dreams come true? Duke Duke is a very special kind of dog who is looking for a very special kind of person. He is a purebred Anatolian shepherd (for lots more about his breed characteristics and to determine whether he’d be a good fit for you, please check out the Web sites www.dogbreedinfo.com and the National Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network at www.nasrn.com). Duke is a 6-year-old, cream-colored, perfectly housebroken, neutered guy who weighs 105 pounds. He lived with his family (a couple with no children) all his life, but recently developed “issues” with the other animals he lived with (He wanted to be the only one in their lives!), so they felt that it would be best if Duke went to a home where he would be the only dog (and NO cats!). He knows lots of commands (sit, stay, wait, no, give me your paw), and is very smart, very loyal (as befits his breed). He is supremely lovable with his people - they said he was a “real hugger!” If you have had experience with big fellows like Duke, and you feel that you have the time and patience to help him adjust to a new home and family, then you and Duke should meet and talk it over! Blue No one knows what his “real” name was, but the folks at TALGV named him “Blue”… not just because he’s a purebred Blue Heeler, but because he likes to talk a “blue streak!” He was found by a wonderful couple on Old Nogales Highway right outside Quail Creek, but since it’s been a while now, it appears that no one is going to come and claim him. Blue is a handsome example of a classic blue merle heeler, with all the great things that go with that pedigree: wonderful temperament, brains galore, sweet nature, and a predisposition to lifelong loyalty. He’s only about 18 months old, being neutered today, healthy and happy as can be, and is so looking forward to moving on to a family that will love and cherish him and make sure that he’s never out on his own again. If that sounds like you, Blue definitely wants to have a chat! For more information about these and other lovable pets waiting for their own, special home, visit The Animal League of Green Valley at 1600 W. Duval Mine Road, call 625-3170, or visit www.talgv.org. If you can spare a 3- or 4-hour block of time each week, please contact TALGV to find out about the many volunteer opportunities available, and to find out more about a rewarding in-home experience, please stop by and ask about our foster program. Our hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 7 days a week. prueter@gvnews.com | 547-9735
