Snickers If you’re looking for a cat to play ball with, then you’ve found one in a million! Snickers was adopted as a kitten from The Animal League of Green Valley about a year ago and lived with his parents until his dad passed away a while ago. His mom is unable to keep him, but says that he is the most wonderful cat in the world: He loves people, children, laps, and other cats, and he particularly enjoys playing with those cat-type balls. If you bounce it against a wall, Snickers will run over and bring it back to you - a skill that not every cat has developed (or has the inclination to develop!)! So you can be sure that he’ll get his exercise with just a small effort on your part, and you’ll both have lots of fun in the bargain. Snickers is a declawed, short-haired, butterscotch and white, neutered boy (He looks a little like that yummy caramel part of a Snickers bar!), who will bring endless enjoyment to anyone’s life. If that’s what you need (and who doesn’t?), just take him home and see! Kelly Kelly and her siblings were five very special kittens who were saved by a very special man. Practically everyone in the Green Valley area knows Mario Aguilar, the former photographer for the Green Valley News, and all the wonderful things he has done for our community. Well, little did you know that he did great things for cats, too! He cared for Kelly, her littermates and their mom from the time they were born in his yard. When he was diagnosed with a serious health issue and could no longer keep them, he asked TALGV to take in Kelly’s little family. Her mom and all of her siblings have found homes, but since she’s on the shy side, she’s still waiting for that special person to take her home. Kelly is a 9-month-old, classic brown and white tabby girl who is an inquisitive, curious kitten at heart. If you sit down quietly with her, she’ll come over and check you out, and if you’re patient, she’ll even let you pet her and pick her up. If you have a heart as big as Texas and love felines “in need,” then you and Kelly would get along famously. Won’t you please give her a chance? Sammy (pictured) Sammy is a 95-pound, five-year-old, male St. Bernard mix who was found lying on the side of the road, in a remote area, with serious wounds inflicted by a wild animal. He was nursed back to health by his finder and is now ready to find a new and permanent home. He is a lovely dog who is intelligent and wants to please. Sammy is up-to-date on his shots and is neutered. He is leash-trained and is learning obedience training and house training, but he definitely prefers being an outside dog. He likes teenagers, but it is not yet known how he will react to young kids, cats, or other dogs. His savior says that he is a gentle giant who needs tender loving care and a permanent home. Since he is part of TALGV’s Offsite Program, there is no fee for Sammy. To find out more about Sammy and/or to make arrangements to meet him, please call TALGV’s Offsite Dog Coordinator, Cathie Fisher, at (520) 648-3738. Rooka If you’re looking for an unusual mix of breeds - well, look no farther! Rooka is a charming, 13-month-old, 41-pound, tan Shar Pei and Rhodesian Ridgeback mix girl. She lived with another (big, rough!) dog and her human dad since she was a puppy, but he had to move into an apartment and couldn’t take them with him. Rooka is a very quiet and laid back lady who found her housemate a bit too gung ho for her, so if she could find a home where she was the only dog (or at least one with a smaller, quiet one!), she would be a lot happier. Her dad kept her outside almost all her life, so she’s going to need someone who has the patience to teach her how to be a good canine citizen. Since she was outdoors alone during the summer, she came to dread those monsoon thunderstorms (that everyone else thinks are so wonderful!), but her dad said that she’s OK if she’s crated during that time. (Of course, if you keep her in the house right next to you for reassurance that would be even better!). Rooka longs for a family who will spend a lot of time with her and include her in all the exciting things that go with life. If that’s you, please think about making her a part of it! For more information about these and other lovable pets waiting for their own, special home, visit The Animal League of Green Valley at 1600 W. Duval Mine Road, call 625-3170, or visit www.talgv.org. If you can spare a three- or four-hour block of time each week, please contact TALGV to find out about the many volunteer opportunities available, and to find out more about a rewarding in-home experience, please stop by and ask about our foster program. Our new hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 7 days a week. prueter@gvnews.com | 547-9735
