ObituariesROBERT DARYL BERRY
died early Saturday morning, March 14, 2009, with his wife Annie at his bedside. Bob was born in Lockport, N.Y. on Oct. 22, 1939. His family relocated to southern Indiana where Bob grew up. Bob was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps and he truly exemplified “always a Marine.” The bulk of Bob’s work career was spent at ALCOA, where he worked for more than 25 years. He was an avid golfer from his early teens until the end of his life. He and his wife Annie were members of Desert Hills where they both loved to play. After Bob’s retirement in 1994, he started ballroom dance lessons where it wasn’t long before the dance student became the dance teacher and a competitor in local and tri-state contests. Combining his love of dance with an equal passion for cruising was a natural. He taught ballroom dance on cruise ships leaving out of both Miami and Los Angeles ports. Bob was a volunteer at Pima Air and Space Museum for about five years. He was chosen outstanding volunteer for the tremendous number of hours he volunteered each week. His love and knowledge of aircraft combined with his outgoing personality made him very popular with the visitors of the museum and the staff as well. He was a member of the Green Valley Elks Lodge #2592 where he had many friends. Dearest to his heart was the American Legion Post #66 where his many friends shared his love of recalling military days. Bob served as Second Vice Commander in 2007-2008. He was proud to serve with the Post 66 Color Guard for five years, during which time he was able to honor hundreds of veterans at their funerals or memorial services. Bob was generous and kind to all. His wonderful sense of humor and gentle, kind spirit will long be remembered and cherished in the hearts of his family and friends. Bob is survived by his wife Annie; his Yorkie Little Bit; four stepchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. There will be a memorial for Bob as soon as arrangements have been coordinated and completed.
