BusinessGreen Valley Realtors get ‘green’ designation Long Realty Green Valley Realtors Janet Petzler and Patty Melton have been awarded the National Association of Realtor’s “green” designation for completing course work related to green homes, buildings, and sustainability issues for the real estate industry. The training focused on understanding what makes a property green, helping clients evaluate the cost and benefits of green buildings, the classification and marketing of green properties, and an understanding of the financial grants and incentives that may be available to homeowners that fit the green profile. Small-business group elections Ward chair Tom Ward of Green Valley has been elected chairman of the Pima County Small Business Commission. Ward, who was appointed to the 11-member commission by the County Board of Supervisors in September 2006, will chair his first meeting April 16. The mission of the Small Business Commission is to advise the County Board on policies and proposals affecting small businesses, and to facilitate communications between the county and the small business community. Ward, a resident of Green Valley since 2003, has held various positions in public policy and economic development in New York and Virginia. He also has directed non-profit and private economic development companies in New York and Illinois. A candidate for Congress from Virginia in 1994, Ward also served as a consultant to the governors of New York and Pennsylvania. Ward is president/owner of Isaiah One, a public policy and economic development consulting company, and is special staff assistant to District 4 Supervisor Ray Carroll. Realty foundation supports food bank The Long Realty Cares Foundation is now making a monthly donation to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. “During this present economic climate, it is especially important to reach out to those around us who need the basics in life - nourishment, food, shelter,” said Long Realty Cares Foundation president Susan Barry. According to the Food Bank, each dollar contributed represents an estimated $9 worth of food items. In addition, the Cares Foundation will support the Food Bank’s “Snack-pak for Kids” program to provide food for children to take home over the weekend. The Long Realty Cares Foundation was established in 2002, and has donated more than $1.5 million in support of more than 160 non-profit organizations in the communities served by Long Realty Companies.
