Organist Felix Hell returns for GV concert

Internationally renowned concert organist Felix Hell will return to Green Valley for a concert on Tuesday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at Valley Presbyterian Church, 2800 S. Camino del Sol.

Hell will perform works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Franz Liszt, Eugene Gigout, Samuel Barber and Felix Alexandre Guilmant. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Hell, a child prodigy, was 16 when he performed in Green Valley in 2003. Now 23, this young German organ virtuoso has performed in 15 countries, including his native Germany.

A liturgical and performing organist since 8, Hell has given more than 550 recitals, including 350 in 42 states. These include appearances with many well-known symphony orchestras, as well as his debut in Boston Symphony Hall in November 2004.

Hell has been called the “most well-known young concert organist worldwide” by John Weaver. Frederick Swann, American Guild of Organists president, said he is “undoubtedly one of the major talents of the century.” Michael Barone, in The American Organist, said Hell “sets standards that many established and honored older players would struggle to equal.”

In addition to his full concert, workshop and master class schedule on both sides of the Atlantic, Hell is the organ artist associate of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan, and distinguished organist in residence to the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa. He is on the faculty of Gettysburg College’s Sunderman Conservatory of Music as organ instructor. He pursued his graduate studies at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, where he received the prestigious Artist Diploma in May 2007, and the Master of Music degree in May 2008.
