Green Valley News

Take your pick: Bavarian and Big Band music are coming to Green Valley.

Gusto from Germany

“Wunderbar” and “aufsehenerregend,” as they say in Germany about something astounding. “Spectacular,” is we say in English.

There are not too many spectacular bands around that can give you the sound and feel of the traditional and modern music of the “Old World,” but the Bavarian Brass Band of Green Valley does it with gusto and will be in concert Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at the West Center.

The concert is open to the public. Tickets are $12 for Green Valley Recreation members, $14 for guests and $16 for the general public and are on sale at all major GVR centers.

Directed by Earl Harrison, with vocalist Tamara Kahrimanis, who also uses her yodeling talents, the concert features the musical skills of fine musicians with richly textured arrangements providing a nostalgic evening of entertainment.

Take a walk through the Black Forest with the yodeling happy wanderer. Polkas! Yes! Waltzes, marches, and perhaps a Schottische and a gallop. The audience will be treated to all. Dancing is permitted in the aisles.

Big Band sounds

Big Band music is alive and well and playing right here in Green Valley. Join conductor Allan Riding and Big Band Sounds of Green Valley in concert Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at the West Center. Featured vocalist is Tucson-favorite Dayna Wagner.

The concert is open to the public. Tickets are $12 for Green Valley Recreation members, $14 for guests and $16 for the general public and on sale at all major GVR centers including the West Center.

This much-loved band has played for years to audiences who appreciate the popular arrangements of some of history’s greatest musicians: Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton and many others.

Riding seeks out new and challenging arrangements of musical classics and popular songs. Born in Great Britain, Riding fills his concerts with musical history, trivia and charming English wit.
