NewsPhone directories on the way
Ellen Sussman Special to the Green Valley News During the next two weeks, more than 100 homeowners association volunteers, the Marine Corps League and members of the Jr. ROTC from Sahuarita High School will deliver information-filled 2009 Green Valley Community telephone directories. Though “Green Valley” is in the title, the 39th annual directory includes Amado, Arivaca, Madera Canyon, McGee Ranch, Montana Vista, Quail Creek, Rancho Sahuarita, Sahuarita, Tubac and Tumacacori. Overseeing the distribution is the Green Valley Community Coordinating Council. “Over 20,000 directories are being delivered. More than 100 volunteers will have their own distribution system within their HOA, the Jr. ROTC will distribute within Rancho Sahuarita and the Marine Corps League will distribute to several sub-divisions in Sahuarita,” Executive Director Sandi Richey said. More than standard White and Yellow Pages, the directory includes government Blue Pages plus Pink Pages listing hometown origins of residents by state. Included in the 290 White Pages are listings of 13,438 residents. In addition to name, address and telephone number the White Pages also gives residents the opportunity to list their HOA, where they moved from and prior occupation. Up front is a page of Frequently Called Numbers that includes AARP, the state Attorney General’s Office, local agencies, area post offices, utility companies, the regional Social Security office and a multitude of other important phone numbers. There are two pages each of attractions, suggested day trips and golf courses plus a listing of state parks and performing arts venues, Tucson International Airport numbers, government listings, churches and synagogues, hospitals, clubs and organizations. A special feature is a colorful and glossy eight-page, fold-out map with insets of Canoa Ranch, Quail Creek and Stone House, Rancho Sahuarita and Montana Vista. On the reverse is a street index with coordinates for locating a street on the map. The cover photo was taken at La Posada by resident James Hammel in April 2008; it show Arizona’s state mammal, the ringtail cat, in a tree. Inclusion in the White Pages is voluntary. Near the front of the directory is a yellow Business Reply Card; anyone not listed may complete the card by Oct. 21, to be included in the 2010 directory. There is no charge to be included.
