NewsTALGV dogs and cats had a record adoption year in 2008, and we look forward to welcoming more new friends in 2009. Lesli Seven is a lucky number, and when Lesli or any one of her siblings is adopted, that luck will come right along with them! Lesli and her sisters were taken in with their mom by a lady in Sahuarita, and she kept them until they didn’t need to nurse any more. But eight dogs were way more than she could keep forever, so she knew that TALGV would make sure that they got all the attention and love (from the great volunteers and the vet) that they need before they go off to homes of their own. Their mom was a “big, brown dog” (there are an awful lot of them these days, it seems!). Of course, no one knows who their father was, so we’re winging it with shepherd and Shar Pei mix (maybe they should make “rescue dog” a breed!). Lesli is about 14 weeks old now and is going to be medium-sized gal when she’s grown. She’s brown with a black muzzle and like all pups, she’s a sweet, squirmy ball of joy. Kelli Kelli’s mom has suffered a series of strokes and the difficult recuperation will preclude her from being able to care for Kelli, her canine friend, Cody, and her feline friend, Coco, any longer. Right now, neighbors are caring for them while they’re still in their home alone, but they miss human companionship an awful lot (especially at night!) and would dearly love to find new places of their own soon. Kelli is an 8-year-old, female Kelpi (Australian herding dog). She weighs 45 pounds, has all her shots, and is spayed. Kelli is very amenable to cats and other dogs. She is very loving and sociable, a wonderful companion who is calm but also playful. She would be a great companion to both a person and another dog or cat. Kelli’s mom is an animal lover of the highest order, and her three current animals have been her life - especially since she lost her husband almost a year ago. Her greatest wish is to have the peace of mind that will come when they are all placed in loving homes. If you can find it in your heart to give a middle-aged gal a home where she can spend her golden years, somewhere down the road you just might get a gold star in your crown! Since Kelli is part of TALGV’s offsite program, there is no fee for her adoption. For more information about Kelli, please call TALGV’s Offsite Dog Coordinator, Cathie Fisher, at (520) 648-3738. Sierra Sierra’s mom died a short while ago, and her nephew is taking care of her and her friend, Topogigio, until new homes are found for them. They lived with him for a bit, but he has a very big dog who wasn’t even going to entertain the idea of having cats in the home, so for now, Sierra and Topogigio are staying with a friend (who has a little dog they get along fine with!). Sierra is a lovely, 5-year-old, small (only six pounds!) declawed, silvery Siamese tabby mix spayed lady who is a very affectionate and social, and she simply adores petting and laps. She’s never been around little kids, so she’s not too sure about them, although if they were older and “cat savvy” she would certainly be willing to give them a try ! Since big dogs have intimidated Sierra a lot recently (though we know there are many canines out there that really like cats!), her first choice would be a quiet home where she can be the center of attention. If you’re looking for a beautiful, quiet companion, then Sierra was just made for you! Since Sierra is part of TALGV’s offsite program, there is no fee for her adoption. For more information about Sierra, please call her guardian at (520) 954-5972 or TALGV’s Offsite Cat Coordinator, Linda Moser, at (520) 399-2526. Mickey Life sure changes fast! One day Mickey is living with his family - mom, dad, kids, and two big dogs, and the next, bam! he’s here at TALGV. He never knew what happened, but his little family abandoned him and although she couldn’t keep him, his “grandmother” rescued him and brought him to TALGV. Mickey is a friendly, gentle and tolerant young boy (around 10 months old) who is neutered and up-to-date on his shots, and, like all guys his age, is still very playful. (He’s a bit shy right now because of the upheaval in his life, but that won’t last long!) He loves people and is so looking forward to finding a new, loving home where he won’t have to worry about what’s going to happen next. Mickey is a striking brown tabby boy with a really sweet face and a personality to match. If you are looking for company, you can be sure that Mickey is, too, and after you’ve been together for just awhile, you’ll think it was a match made in heaven!
