‘Moveable’ Santa Cruz concert series starts Jan. 24

The Santa Cruz Foundation for the Performing Arts launches its 2009 Winter/Spring Benderly Concert Series “‘New World Music” with a Jan. 24 performance by the Santa Fe Guitar Quartet, internationally known chamber ensemble from Santa Fe, Argentina.

The concert will be held at the Walker Ranch in Sonoita at 7 p.m. Billed as a “moveable feast,” this concert is the first in a series of five lively and eclectic performances to be held at a variety of intimate venues including private homes, ranches and historic sites throughout the area. A champagne reception will follow each performance.

The series continues on Feb. 21 with “Newpoli,” seven outstanding musicians who perform dynamic arrangements of Italian folk songs and dances, to be held at La Mision de San Miguel in Patagonia at 7 p,m.

The March 14 offering will feature Maeve Gilchrist, extraordinary virtuoso of the Celtic Harp, at the home of Ken and Kathy Morrow on the Mesa in Patagonia.

April 4, Juanito Pascual, exciting classical flamenco guitarist will be presented at the Santa Rita Abbey in Sonoita at 5 p.m.

Finally, on May 16, the Borderland 7 Dixieland “Jass” Band will perform authentic American jazz in the courtyard at the home of Virginia Benderly, Lake Patagonia Ranch Estates.


Single concert admission is $35 for SCFPA members and $40 for non-members. A limited number of series subscriptions for new and current members is available at a savings of 20 percent for the five concerts. For reservations, call 520-394-9495 or e-mail scfpa@scfpapresents.org.

In addition, there will be two free community concerts featuring the Santa Cruz Singers on April 26, and Tapestry Chamber Ensemble on May 3.
