Colorado Club will have souper New Year’s Dinner at 5 p.m. at Desert Hills rec center auditorium. Featured will be soups prepared by the club’s officers. Members bring: party sandwiches for six if your last name begins with A-L; dessert for six if your last name begins with M-Z. All members bring their drinks and table service. Soup, bowls, and coffee provided. Entertainment will be a special organ concert by four organists. Jan. 5

La Frontera Corral of Westerners Intl. will hold its regular meeting at 4 p.m. at Casa Community Center next to La Posada. Featured speaker will be Posy Piper talking about her just published book, “Denim & Diamonds, 60 years of Arizona’s Santa Cruz County Cowbelles.” Piper, a retired teacher and journalist from Patagonia, heads the Cowbelles Ranchers Heritage Center in Nogales. Patagonia Women’s Club is inviting the public is invited to hear speaker Steve Ritter, a retired physician who lives in Sonoita. His topic will be the history and development of the Winchester Rifle which laid the foundation for repeating lever action firearms in the early 1800s. He has done extensive research on the inventions behind the success of the Winchester, the individuals who shaped its history and the firearms industry. He will speak at 2 p.m. at Cady Hall, 342 Duquesne Ave, next to the Patagonia Library. The club will have a meeting at 1 p.m. for members and refreshments will be served before the program.

Unitarian Universalist Sunday Forum meets at 10 a.m. at the Canoa Hills Recreation Center 3660 S. Camino del Sol, Green ValleyThe PBS special “Anyone and Everyone” will be shown. It presents conservative, ethnically diverse families who have coped in various ways with the “coming out” of their children.

Jan. 12

At 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, members of the GV Chamber Music Society will perform music by Handel, Scharwenka, Telemann, and Dvorak. The program is free and open to the public. Performers will be Betty Maurstad, soprano; Michael Finkelstein, piccolo, trumpet; Tom Hanselmann, ‘cello; Mary Lonsdale Baker, piano; Cal Turner, clarinet; Anneke Mattson, piano, Marya Giesy, violin; and Esther Siebold, piano.
