LettersEditor: Being an elder, raised during the depression and being a proud World War II veteran, one often, during our “autumn” years, have many moments at times to remember and reminisce about those past youthful days. Living in a small town, one’s lifestyle was know by all, some good and some disturbing, yet all seemed to lead toward a very social life all. I. as a youth, had a daily paper route within my residential area. Becoming a teen-ager, I was trusted by my parents to seek additional money by hitchhiking some four miles to a local golf course and became an almost daily caddie. Then came the 30s when Franklin Delano Roosevelt became president. Many work groups came into the picture, putting many to work, working mainly on infrastructure needs. Yes, the WPA and CCC camps and of course, Army recruitment. Even today with the many states and cities, infrastructure rebuilding is very much needed, so don’t be too much surprised if either comes about under the new administration. And now with the financial market, everyone seem a bit stressed. In regard to the financial market — money, money, greed. One must remember one’s possessions sometimes come about with afflictions. Then there’s that 30s’ song “It’s Only a Paper Moon.” So you suffered a paper loss, big deal! Anyway, what few remember of those early days of the 30s and 40s, we did have a great generation.
