GV News columnist poll

During the month of October the Green Valley News conducted a poll of editorial page columnists.

Readers were asked to select their two favorite columnists from the following writers: Bill O’Reilly, Mark Shields, Michael Gerson, Garrison Keillor, Marie Cocco, Chuck Norris and James Farah.

Votes were counted from three sources:

1. E-mail submissions

2. Mail-in ballots

3. On-line voting.

A total of 823 people cast their votes with 347 voting by mail-in ballots, 293 on-line and 183 by e-mails.

The final results are:

Garrison Keillor, 337; Mark Shields, 306; Bill O’Reilly, 270, Chuck Norris, 201; Michael Gerson, 105; Marie Cocco, 94; and James Farah, 69.

As a result, Bill O’Reilly and Garrison Keillor’will appear in the Sunday edition of the Green Valley News. Chuck Norris and Mark Shields will appear in the Wednesday edition. In the event one of those columns is unavailable, Michael Gerson’s column will appear in that place.
