BusinessAmerican Home furniture store in Sahuarita will be holding liquidation sales starting this week as it prepares to close its doors. The furniture chain, which has stores in New Mexico and Arizona, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization on Nov. 3, a company spokesperson said last week in a press release. American Home plans to liquidate all six Arizona stores and two stores in New Mexico, leaving one store each in Albuquerque, Farmington and Santa Fe. The company said, like other businesses, it’s being affected by a national decline in home sales, a credit crunch that’s affecting both businesses and consumers and a decrease in consumer spending. The Tucson-area stores have been closed temporarily since the filing, but were set to open on Nov. 15 to hold the sales. Attempts to contact the Sahuarita store, located at 18705 South Frontage Road in the Basha’s Plaza, for more details, were unsuccessful. A spokesperson at the company headquarters in Albuquerque said they don’t know when any of the stores will close for good. In Tucson, American Home has stores at 4690 N. Oracle Road and 9559 E. Golf Links Road. The company was already in the process of closing a warehouse operation at 2020 W. Prince Road. jrichardson@gvnews.com | 547-9726
