NewsAs a 1975 issue of Arizona Highways stated, there is no better time than now for Arizona residents to begin using solar power for their homes. To inform Green Valley/Sahuarita area homeowners about residential solar power options, including current technology in design and equipment, the latest state and improved federal tax credits, utility company incentives, energy efficiency research and environmental impacts, a Solar Forum will be presented at the Sahuarita High School auditorium on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 9 a.m. The forum is free and open to everyone. Panelists will include Tamarack Little, environmental specialist for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (who serves on the congressional energy committee), Katherine Kent, president of The Solar Store in Tucson, and representatives of TRICO and TEP, electrical utilities serving this area. The panel will be moderated by Gary Sullivan of the organizing Environmental Committee of the Green Valley Community Coordinating Council (GVCCC). This follows a successful forum in March, attended by over 200 interested local residents. Recent Arizona legislation requires Homeowner Associations to permit solar power installations. The panelists will describe various installations, costs and limitations. Additionally, southern Arizona solar equipment installers and local solar power users will be available to answer questions and provide practical advice following the panel presentations. Arranging the event is the Environmental Committee of the Green Valley Community Coordinating Council. Co-sponsoring the event is the Green Valley Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce. Organizers for the GVCCC are Bob Campbell, Genna Lemman, Eileen MacLaren and Gary Sullivan.
