A man was assaulted last week as he was leaving a restaurant at the Canoa Ranch Golf Club in Green Valley, Pima County Sheriff’s reports said.

The man had left the Grill on the Green restaurant, 5800 S. Camino Del Sol, around 8 p.m. to walk to a parking lot across the street.

As he was walking through what he described as a ditch, three men jumped out from behind some bushes and demanded that he give up his wallet, Pima County Sheriff’s reports said.

When the man told them he didn’t have any money, one of the assailants, who the victim described as Hispanic males, reportedly punched him in the head.

He was able to defend himself, but was thrown to the ground before the men ran off, reports said.

The victim, who is in his 40s, was not seriously injured, the report said.

  • A Tucson man was arrested on Nov. 1 for stealing an estimated $100,000 worth of copper wire from a Green Valley business, Pima County Sheriff’s reports said.

Vincent James Ewer II, 30, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary early Saturday morning after the owners of Cyprus Copper Company, 18550 S. La Canada Dr., caught him breaking into their business, which had been burglarized several times that week.

When Pima County Sheriff’s deputies and Sahuarita Police officers responded to the scene, Ewer was fleeing in his pickup truck, reports said.

A vehicle that matched the description of Ewer’s truck was spotted heading eastbound on Twin Buttes Rd. toward La Canada Dr. when Sahuarita police attempted to stop it.

The truck ran a stop sign and drove into a nearby neighborhood, where it crashed, taking out two mailboxes and a light pole, the report said.

Ewer fled the scene, but was later spotted by a Sheriff’s Department helicopter, hiding in the front yard of a home.

Wire cutters and several rolls of copper wiring worth $300 were found in the suspect’s truck, reports said.

Police have connected Ewer to the other recent burglaries at the business, one of which took place on the night of Oct. 30.

Ewer was able to get onto the property, which the report describes as a mining complex and construction area, by cutting through and removing some barbed-wire fencing.

Ewer was taken to Pima County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.

  • An illegal immigrant and convicted sex offender was apprehended on Thursday by Border Patrol agents at the Nogales Station, a press release from the Tucson Sector Border Patrol said Friday.

The 42-year-old man is a convicted sex offender out of San Bernardino, CA, and had been sentenced to two years in prison for sex with a minor under 16 years old.

He was enrolled in the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS), which the Border Patrol uses to identify individuals who have a past criminal record in the U.S.

Since October of 2007, more than 460 illegal immigrants were arrested by the Tucson Sector Border Patrol for sex related crimes, the release said.
