LettersEditor: This year we had the good fortune of having six excellent candidates compete for three open seats on the Board of Directors and which are effective this December. On behalf of my colleagues on the Board and the staff, I would like to congratulate Dave Appleton on his reelection and welcome new board members Mikel Shilling and Bruce Howell. Dave has been an invaluable member of the Board in planning our new stations and in every other respect as well. Mikel Shilling’s leadership in this community is well known and respected and Bruce Howell brings us over 3 decades of diverse experience in the fire service. At our upcoming meeting on November 26, we will be honoring outgoing Board member Joan Browning. Her decision not to run again is one we reluctantly respected and accepted but her departure is a huge loss for the District. During her seven years of distinguished service on the Board, she has served as the clerk of the board as well as on the district’s pension board. Her advice, counsel, integrity and commitment have been absolutely superlative. This assessment is equally applicable for all of her volunteer activities in the community, including but not limited to, the Green Valley Community Coordinating Council Executive Board and many of its committees, Green Valley Recreation, Inc., the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation and the White Elephant. Joan, on behalf of your colleagues on the Board and our entire staff, we thank you for all you have done and we wish you well in your well earned “retirement”. Ed Clarke, Chairman, Green Valley Fire District
