The majority of this comment was written on Oct. 26.
Since that time two letters have been published on the editorial pages your newspaper that have raised my concern about the people who live in Green Valley.
The Guest Comment by Don Severe “Opinions versus facts” is the most racist diatribe I have read in a very long time and his lies about ACORN can be refuted very easily by visiting www. acorn.org.
Friday there was a letter to the editor by Carol and Gene Neuberg which contains a list of disasters caused by the Bush Administration which are attributed to the Democratically controlled Congress.
I think there is some truth in the Neuburg”s list, but to assign the disasters of twelve years of Republican control of the Congress, eight years of Bush control of the White House to Democrats is revisionist history.
And they should know that Democratic control of the Senate consisted of one vote and Democratic legislation in the U.S. Senate was thwarted by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Republican, Kentucky, and other Republican senators.
These three writers represent the worst political hatreds in our society and I can only attribute their venomous comments to an addiction to the politics of Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh. Shame on them!

When this election campaign began I asked myself who would support a Republican for any national office (and that question has been partially answered by the columnists and writers of letters to the editor of the GV News).
And when Senator McCain received the nomination of his party I could find only one answer to my question: Roe v Wade.
I know why I will (have) vote for Obama/Biden and I ask myself repeatedly why anyone who is neutral or pro-choice would vote for McCain/Palin and can only answer myself this way:
The Republican voter agrees with these policies of George W. Bush and the Republican dominated Congress:
The Iraq war (over 4400 dead and 30,000 wounded men and women), violation of the Geneva Conventions and torture;
the suspension of habeas corpus and assaults on the Constitution, spying on American citizens, a record number of signing statements to avoid the laws passed by Congress, abrogation of treaties with friendly nations, total mismanagement of (intentional?) the Katrina disaster in New Orleans; increase of the national debt by spending $10,000,000,000 a month to support an illegal war in Iraq while at the same time giving a tax break to the richest among us (McCain wants to make the Bush tax cuts for the ultra rich permanent); gifting tax dollars to religious organizations which has diminished the separation of church and state, do nothing to address the real dangers of global warming, the serious attempt to corrupt Social Security (McCain supports privatization); support of those who reduced regulations of our financial institutions that led to the current debacle in our housing and financial markets (Senator McCain supported deregulation and voted 90 percent in support of Bush).
There are many reasons the Bush administration has been called the worst ever and Republicans should acknowledge that the people they elected are responsible for disaster of the last eight years.
And for those of you who have your heads in the sand and who find reason to decry liberals and leftists and have a Rovian outlook should look at the devastation the Republican right wing has wrought over the past eight years
It is time for new ideas and new energy: elect Barack Obama who with 60 Democrat votes in the United States Senate will lead our nation out of the morass it is now in.
