As John McCain and Sarah Palin go around the country calling Obama a socialist, we find Alaska doing quite well while most other states are scrambling for money.
Robert Sheer, in a column on Truthdog.com called Alaska the Peoples Republic of Alaska, It seems for good reason.
As Sheer reported, this year every resident of Alaska will receive $3,200 in revenue from the state $1200 in cash. A good portion of the money will come from oil companies.
So in lieu of spending oil revenue on infrastructure the money goes to individuals and the money for infrastructure comes from the other states. Enter Ted Stevens.
With the advent of Ted Stevens, Alaska has been at the head of the trough, routinely getting more federal dollars per capita than any other state.
California gets .78 cents back for every dollar of federal taxes and Alaska gets $1.78 back.
If military spending is included, Alaska gets $4.81 back for every $1.00 of taxes.
With tax breaks over the past 8 years our national debt has gone from $5.7 trillion to $10.5 trillion.
McCain wants more tax breaks while we witness Palin and Alaska hauling it in from taxes McCain abhors.
