Base vote on fact

Published: Saturday, November 1, 2008 8:15 PM MST

Editor:

Don Severe’s column urging us to base our presidential vote on facts rather than emotional opinions came just in the nick of time.

At first, when Mr. Severe said “Most writers who originate opinions or defend positions concerning Barack Obama are driven by emotions,” I thought he might be, well, maybe a little condescending —particularly when he concluded that “I make most important decisions based on cogent factual information.”

I had thought I was voting for Obama because the war in Iraq was a disaster, health care costs are skyrocketing, government agencies have set new highs for incompetence, the economy seems to be nearing total collapse, etc., etc.. etc.

I had also thought that a Republican administration might have had something to do with this situation.

Silly me. Now, following Mr. Severe’s counsel, I can see that all of this was a construction of my over-emotional mind.

These things never happened. The Republicans bear no responsibility!

Boy, do I feel better. Thanks, Mr. Severe. Without your help I might have voted for the wrong man.
