Dangerous precedent

Editor:

I wonder if Arizonans realize what a dangerous precedent they will be setting if Proposition 102 is allowed to pass.

Most people I have spoken to who object to gay marriage do so on religious grounds. Do you really want to open that door?

Opening doors can be a risky business as they can be very difficult to close again. Franklyn Delano Roosevelt tried to open the door on welfare just a little bit to help the nation during a Depression.

By doing so, he opened a flood gate which turned us into a welfare state.

If you pass laws based on religious morality where does it end and whose religion does it end with?

The founding Fathers purposely wrote the separation of church and state into the constitution to prevent this from happening.

They wanted to protect minorities from being abused.

Nobody has the right to force his religious views on anyone else.

Your religion is not mine and you don’t have the right to push it on me. But where will it end?

Have you forgotten that in Colonial New England a man could be pilloried for neglecting to go to church or for working on Sunday?

Have you forgotten the Inquisition?

Too many Americans today want to maintain their freedom while denying others their right to be free.

When I enlisted in the military I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

I happen to believe that the founding of religions in general is one of the most evil things that ever happened to mankind yet I would sacrifice my life to protect your right to follow whatever religion you choose.

Why do you want to deny others the same respect and consideration?

If you allow this door to be opened how long will it be before this country has it’s own brand of the Taliban?

Who will stand up when they come for you?
