SportsGolf is the backbone of the Green Valley community. New residents who aren’t familiar with the game might find it a daunting task to participate without any prior experience. That’s where the Women’s Ambassador Program comes in. The Arizona Women’s Golf Association is offering a six-week course at Haven Golf Course beginning on Saturday at 10 a.m. “It’s different from other golf lessons, because we have experienced women golfers that assist our professionals,” said AWGA spokesperson Mary Ann Souter. The course focuses on support and encouragement for all students in order to eliminate the intimidation factor for many novice golfers. Each class lasts one hour and covers more than just hitting the ball. Proper etiquette and a working knowledge of the rules is also emphasized. Cost is $195 and can be paid online at www.awga.org. Click on the “Fall Into Golf” display on the front page and follow the instructions. Checks can also be mailed to the AWGA headquarters, 141 East Palm Lane No. 210 in Phoenix, 85004. “In addition, students will have other new golfers to help provide support,” Souter said. “They’ll be learning together and they’ll have someone to golf with when the lessons are completed.” In other AWGA news, there is a “Join the Fun” scramble tournament in Quail Canyon in Tucson on Nov. 16. The nine-hole event is for those women who want to play for fun and perhaps meet some fellow beginners. Registration is $40 and the shotgun start begins at 11 a.m. For more experienced golfers, the “Scotch Play Tournament” is taking place on Nov. 10-11 at Canoa Hills and San Ignacio. No wonder you don't like other people's opinion [internet chat]. " Eric S wrote on Jul 26, 2009 3:16 PM: " I hope you don't vote next year Corky. You clearly do not deserve it. To leave Rickey Henderson off your ballot is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen. You honestly think that Matt Williams was better than Rickey Henderson??? Ridiculous. Your half hearted apology afterwards was just as pathetic. " Submit a Comment |
