of Green Valley, passed away on Oct. 24, 2008. He was born in New York, N.Y. on Dec. 24, 1917. He graduated with honors from James Madison High School and finished a year at New York University as a pre-medical student before leaving to financially support his family. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army between 1941 and 1945, playing a role in the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp. He married Jane Berlin on Nov. 25, 1945. They raised three children in Levittown and then Woodmere, Long Island. They later retired to Green Valley. His life’s passions were tennis, golf, getting together with family and being an all-around sports fan. He and his wife were professional ballroom dancers. He also loved to sing and frequently performed in plays and the synagogue choir. Lester was employed at the New York Post for over 30 years without missing a day of work. He began as a delivery man and worked up to Circulation Director. Lester was preceded in death by his wife after 54 years of marriage. He is survived by three children, Larry (Stephanie), Nancy Fawcett and Marc (Sissy); as well as six grandchildren Ben, Tom Salzman, Keri Fawcett Russo, Mathew, Jenna and Jay. Lester is also survived by his partner of almost 10 years, Kaye Vesia. Services were held at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Glendale, N.Y. on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008. Nancy will sit shiva at her home in Green Valley, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 30 and 31. Call 520.625.0389 for information.
