NewsSanta Cruz County is being mapped to show where flood plains are, and there are going to be four meetings to show property owners where they are and whether or not flood plain insurance will be needed. John Hays, floodplain coordinator of the Santa Cruz County Flood Control District, said there will be sessions in Patagonia, Nogales, Tubac and Rio Rico. His announcement said, “Each meeting will provide the same information to the public. The public is invited to attend whichever meeting will be the most convenient for them regardless of location.” The meetings will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Patagonia Town Council Chambers and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nogales High School, both on Oct. 28; 2 to 4 p .m. at the Tubac North Facility on Bridge Road and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rio Rico Calabasas Fire station, Calabasas and West Frontage Road, both on Oct. 30. The maps are called the DFIRM maps, for Digital Flood Insurance Rate maps, and the program is administered by the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA. Property insurance rates will probably become higher for structures in the flood plain. jlamb@gvnews.com | 547-9749
