Help with hearing loss

Published: Tuesday, September 23, 2008 9:43 PM MST

Editor:

I was overwhelmed to see 65 Green Valley folks at the recent Adult Loss Of Hearing Association (ALOHA) meeting at La Posada in the Recreation Building. Doctor Tom Muller gave a wonderful presentation about hearing loss. Each month, ALOHA has a guest speaker (10 a.m. on the first Monday of every month). The meetings are open to the public and I plan to attend each upcoming presentation.

In October, Pam Wood, an audiologist and vice president of ALOHA, will be speaking on “Aural Rehabilitation.” In November, Heidi Lervik from Cochlear America will be speaking on “Cochlear Implants.”

I feel truly blessed that there’s a place I can go to learn more about my hearing loss and what technological advances have been made in treatment.

For the 30 percent to 40 percent of adults over the age of 60 having a hearing loss, I’d encourage them to enjoy the many hearing impaired friendly facilities and lectures afford to us in this community. Thank you

Alice Homiak, Green Valley
