We asked; you answered — and then some.

Throughout the transition phase we’re undergoing at the Green Valley News, we’ve actively sought reader and community input on ways to change, update and improve the newspaper.

The responses flooded in. We’re lucky to have a community this engaged and involved with the journalistic process, and we thank each and every person who voiced his or her opinions.

Some subtle changes have already taken place, with some bigger ones in store for the not-too-distant future. We’re not a group content to rest on our laurels, so you can count on the fact that we’re driven to upgrade our paper at every turn.

One of the most overwhelming suggestions from our readers was to continue highlighting various Southern Arizona residents with captivating stories, families and accomplishments.

“Your Incredible Neighbors” has been among the newspaper’s most popular running features for the past couple years.

Many fascinating people have come from many places to enjoy this desert oasis. This series helps shed light on the remarkable individuals who now call Green Valley home.

Unlike most smaller communities, Green Valley has a wide array of cultures, experiences and backgrounds to draw from. Our residents come from all over the place, and it’s those unique circumstances that keep this community vital.

Just recently, we’ve gotten to know Dr. Doug Adkins, a surgeon who has flourished as an artist and a writer. In the past, we’ve profiled community members such as former big-league ballplayer Roy Smalley (who used to share the field with Jackie Robinson), tireless charity advocate Erika Chacon, Arizona Department of Public Safety chaplain Vern Harms and countless other outstanding local residents.

“Your Incredible Neighbors” is exactly the type of series that keeps a community newspaper thriving. It’s the most effective way to connect people in this area and it helps bolster pride and enthusiasm among Green Valley residents.

If you know someone who fits the bill for a “Your Incredible Neighbors” feature, please e-mail nprevenas@gvnews.com (be sure to write “Your Incredible Neighbors” in the subject line) and we’ll make sure that individual receives the recognition he or she deserves.

As the Green Valley News continues to move forward, one thing will never change. This community will always have interesting residents with terrific stories to tell.

Let us know who they are and we’ll provide the forum.
