LettersEditor: Today, Sunday, Sept. 1, there are two Letters to the Editor that I must applaud, and comment on. The first is the letter from James O’Berry. He states exactly the sentiments of myself and my husband; if it were not for keeping up with local news, I also would cancel my subscription. The situation became much worse with the arrival of Mr. Bennett. As for keeping up with the local news I also am finding that I can actually get more from the Cox home page when it comes to crime or accidents, etc. We love Green Valley, but find it sad that the local paper is so lacking in real news, and so obviously not “fair and balanced.” The second letter is from T.L. Chandler, and here again the sentiments expressed are exactly those of my husband and myself. In our younger years we spent much time in the interior of Mexico, so we do have some “on the ground” knowledge of the issues in the country. We understand that there is great poverty, and people are looking for a better life, but it must be understood that we have no obligation to see our desert trashed by illegals simply because their own country cares nothing for them. We are told to carry cloth shopping bags, etc., and frowned on if we are perceived to be not environmentally correct, but the damage done to the environment by the illegal traffic coming across the border is excused. As the letter states, the logic of saying a tower will destroy the ecology of the area, but the campfires, trash, etc. will not, escapes me. We see crime, and disease, overwhelming our health, welfare, and law enforcement; as stated so well — a virtual nonsense. Norene Mallory, Green Valley
