10 die in Utah plane crash

MOAB, Utah — A twin-engine plane crashed and burned near an airport not far from Arches National Park in southeastern Utah, killing the pilot and nine passengers connected with a group of dermatology clinics, an official said Saturday.

The victims included the director of a company with dermatology clinics in three states and staff members.

Lt. Steve White told KCYN radio in Moab that the plane “pancaked” and skidded along the ground.

The airplane was a Beech King Air A-100, said Mike Fergus, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration in Seattle. He said that “to the best of our knowledge” no flight plan had been filed for the trip, but he said that isn’t unusual.

Tropical Storm not done yet

APALACHICOLA, Fla.— Fay just won’t quit.

The tropical storm that set a record with four landfalls in Florida chugged west across the Gulf Coast on Saturday and cities from Pensacola to New Orleans prepared for several inches of rain Sunday.

Proving that a slow-moving tropical storm can be as deadly and damaging as a hurricane, Fay killed at least 11 people in Florida and one in Georgia, emergency officials said.

Mexican police nab cartel hit man

TIJUANA, Mexico—Mexican police said Saturday they chased a suspected drug cartel hit man through the streets of Tijuana and into a crowded casino, arresting him and an accomplice after hundreds of frightened gamblers were ordered to the floor.

Mexico’s federal Public Security Department said the suspects are believed to be Ruben Rios Estrada, a key gunman for the Arellano-Felix cocaine cartel, and Hector Manuel Mora Mendoza, another suspected gang member. They were flown to Mexico City under heavy guard, the agency said.
