NewsJim Lamb, Green Valley News “Help Wanted.” That’s how Green Valley Recreation is announcing its search for candidates to run for three-year terms on its board of directors. GVR is also planning three receptions for possible candidates — Sept. 17, 2 p.m. at Santa Rita Springs Anza Room; Oct. 1, 5 p.m. at Canoa Hills Saguaro Room; and Oct. 15, 2 p.m. at Madera Vista Recreation Center. There are four seats open for election, GVR information said. Terms ending this year are those of Eddie Peabody Jr., Leon Lies, Gunnar Bonthron and Roberta Konen. This is the end of Konen’s second term and she’s ineligible to run again. Bonthron said Thursday he plans to run for re-election. Peabody and Lies couldn’t be reached Thursday. A GVR announcement said candidates for the board “must be GVR property owners with their names listed on the title.” It also suggested they should be “open-minded, fair, possessing pro-active leadership skills, practicing communication and listening skills and being a team player with a vision for the future of a great organization.” Board members will attend the monthly meeting, a monthly study session and will probably be called on to serve on other GVR committees and projects. GVR operates seven major recreation centers and six satellite centers. It also operates an extensive list of activity clubs and operations and entertainment venues. For more information, call either Ginny Bilbrey at GVR headquarters, 625-3440 extension 204, or nominations chairperson Mike Banks, 648-5050. jlamb@gvnews.com | 547-9749
