They are brilliant martial artists, with great hearts dedicated to creating a rite of passage for her students into their own power and awareness, Callan says. |

We live in an increasingly dangerous world, one fraught with uncertainty and risk of physical harm. You can combat those fears head-on and take a stand for personal safety by enrolling in the Awakening the Warrior Within workshop, scheduled Aug. 14, 15 and 16 at the Community Center in Tubac.
Participants will learn a “comprehensive self-defense system that teaches the skills to disarm an attack, define boundaries, read intent, trust your instincts, overcome fear and act with 100% commitment,” says course leader and founder Dawn Callan, who holds a 10th-degree black belt and has 35 years in the martial arts and 40 years of spiritual practice.
“Your first weapon is yourself, and you have to be able to trust yourself,” says Callan. “What happens as a result of this workshop is an internal shift—you see things differently, you have a different sense of who you are, and you begin to live in the present. Combat is more than self-defense; it’s a metaphor for facing the worst tyrants in your life, standing up to them, taking your power back and stepping into freedom.
“A lot of choices are being taken away from us,” notes Callan. “It is now our job to train ourselves how to deal with what is going on.”
In the course, participants not only learn how to protect themselves physically but create emotional boundaries as well. The workshop is designed for anyone of any size, gender or physical condition who seeks an effective way to overcome fear and protect themselves with confidence.
Graduates of the course report they are no longer driven by anxiety but motivated by excitement. “They learn to come from a place of joy and self trust instead of denial and fear and begin living their own potential,” says Callan. “It’s as if their body takes a giant sigh. People can find their joy again.”
The course begins Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. and continues Saturday and Sunday from approximately 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For further information, contact Callan at 831-659-8585 or local coordinator Amanda Borduin at 400-5802. Cost of the workshop is $1,250. Student, family and group discounts are available.
The focus of the workshop is on the development of your inner Warrior and the right of self-protection. It connects you with your own inner power and the use of that power to break through old habits and limiting beliefs to achieve success and fulfillment in your life.
You learn a comprehensive self-defense system that teaches the skills necessary to disarm an attack, define boundaries, read intent, trust your instincts, overcome fear and act with 100 percent commitment.

This provides an experience of your inner Warrior that unveils your own tremendous power and life potential. Awakening the Warrior Within explores the conscious work you can do to fully realize your potential and achieve mastery in your life. Web site:
