He’s taken charge of the team and coached them through the Pima League and Nogales Recreation League this summer. They’re now getting ready for the winter season. Their first challenge will be a home game against rival Nogales on Dec. 1 at Rio Rico, beginning at 7 p.m. “We’re looking forward to it. Playing against the Lady Apaches is always exciting. The rivalry is fun to be a part of,” Davis said. Rio Rico wrestlers look to former championsWrestlers can look up to a row of photos of former state champions during practice in the wrestling room at Rio Rico High School. Another champion, or two, has made it to the wall for 14 of the past 15 years. Last season, two were added, senior Ramon Duarte in the 215-pound class and junior Ricky Valdez in the 285-pound class. Duarte graduated in 2009, but Valdez is back to defend his title this year.
