Paws Patrol cat adoption takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at GV Canine.

Scottsdale author Jim Burns will lead a free bird walk at Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park, then autograph copies of his book, “Jim Burns’ Arizona Birds: From the Backyard to the Backwoods.” Tour begins at 6:30 a.m. The park is on U.S. Highway 60 three miles west of Superior. Green Valley Wood Carvers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Friends In Deed, 301 W. Camino Casa Verde. Any wood carvers interested in an active carving club, or any person wishing to learn how to carve is welcome. Information, call Don Moberg, 777-7182

Green Valley Chamber Music Society will present a free concert at 10 a.m. at St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, 600 La Canada Drive. Pianist Bob Murray, soprano Helen Hanselmann, pianist Sharlyn Mathews, ‘cellist Helene Benedikte, pianist Ann-Marie Schaffer, and pianist Ester Siebold. The public is invited to enjoy this concert.


Aug. 12

Green Valley Rotary Club meets at 11:45 a.m. at St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church 600 S. La Canada Dr., Annalyn Censky, a former Sahuarita School District student and a G.V. News and Sun intern, has been awarded a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship for a year’s study in the Czech Republic. Annalyn, now an ASU graduate and entry-level journalist who has worked in Phoenix and New York City, will discuss the events leading up to the award and her expectations studying in Europe next year. Green Valley Branch No. 77, Fleet Reserve Association, meets for lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the Cow Palace in Amado. Active duty, reserve and retired personnel and honorably discharged former members of all services, all paygrades E-1 thru O-10, who have had some enlisted service in the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard, and their spouses are welcome.
