State gasoline prices lower; oil company earnings up
In some places in Arizona this week gasoline prices fell more than 10 cents a gallon, reflecting a nationwide decline.
Lowest in the state is still Tucson, with the average price for a gallon of regular $3.740, a decline of 5.7 cents for the week according to AAA Arizona, the auto club.
The Associated Press reported the state average is $3.91 a gallon, exactly the same as the national average $3.91.
Triple A said Arizona’s highest price for a gallon of regular is $4.14 in Flagstaff.
The highest average price per gallon in the country was $4.623 in Alaska, followed by California $4.583.
Hawaiians pay $4.408.
And the oil companies don’t seem to be hurting.
First quarter earnings for Exxon Mobil soared to $10.89 billion, or $2.03 per share, compared with $9.28 billion, or $1.62 per share, a year ago.
