NewsSpecial to the Green Valley News In the wake of the recent death of an elderly woman in Maricopa County from the West Nile Virus, Pima County is reminding residents to take precautions during the mosquito season — which will last well into the fall. “Confirmed cases of West Nile virus have been identified in some mosquitoes, dead birds, and sentinel chickens around Arizona, so we know the threat is here. However, with knowledge and precautions, residents can vastly reduce their chances of contracting the disease,” said Dr. Michelle McDonald, chief medical officer for the Pima County Health Department.
