Hannah Kranabetter spends part of her week with a 99-year-old client who relies on her for trips to the grocery store and doctor’s office.

The owner of “Hannah’s Caring Hands” used to drive an elderly client to area casinos up to five days a week, sometimes spending five hours with him at the blackjack table. She helped him read cards after his eyesight deteriorated and made sure his trip was smooth and enjoyable.

Whatever senior citizens need, Kranabetter said she tries to deliver.

Between trips to the doctor’s office, grocery store and casino, Kranabetter provides other services. She showers and dresses clients, cooks meals and cleans house. She takes them to the pharmacy and airport. She provides companionship and conversation, helps with recreational activities and reminds them about medication.

“The most important part of my job is being attentive to my customers and making sure they’re happy,” said Kranabetter, a Trinidad native who moved to Southern Arizona in 2000 after living previously in New York and Pennsylvania.

Kranabetter started her business four years ago and has worked in home care for the elderly for eight years. She branched out on her own in 2004 after a client she had with a referral agency contacted her after she left the agency.

“She worked with others from the agency and never got along with anyone else,” Kranabetter explained. “She contacted me personally and asked if I would work with her. I did.”

The niche business started to take off in the first year, Kranabetter said. The opportunity allowed her the flexibility to volunteer at school with her 11-year-old son. She’s been working full time in clients’ homes for three years.

“You have to have a lot of patience and understanding to work with senior clients,” Kranabetter said. “I am patient, and I communicate well with my clients. I have a good sense of humor. I love doing it.”

Kranabetter said she’s available for hire for short- or long-term projects. Her fees are negotiable. She can be reached at 245-8750.

“I do all the work myself,” Kranabetter said. “I work weekends. I work nights, if I have someone who needs me.”
