MARIE HEALY HAMPTON GABBERT

passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2008.

Born Aug. 24, 1920, in Kalamazoo, Mich., she married in 1937 and lived in Michigan until 1960 when she moved to Hinsdale, Ill. In 1984, she retired to Green Valley.

Marie was preceded in death by her first husband Donald Eugene Hampton; her second husband Howard Gabbert; and her son Donald Barry Hampton.

She is survived by her brother Byron (Meredith) Healy of Grand Rapids, Mich.; her daughter Jill (Roger) Henry of Green Valley; grandchildren Dawn (Roger) Anderson of Green Valley, Matthew Hampton of Chicago, Ill., Laurie Czajkowski of Darien, Ill. and April (Phillip) Luxner of Centennial, Colo. She had three great-grandchildren Kelly, Jake and Grayson.

In 1988, she found love again when, on a trip down the Amazon, she met Howard Gabbert. Howard and Marie were married in 1989 and surviving her from that family are three stepsons Howard (Andrea) Gabbert II of Tucson, James Gabbert of Sausalito, Calif. and Steve Gabbert of England; and six step-grandchildren Matthew (Lorraine) Gabbert, Andrew (Elizabeth) Gabbert, Elliot Gabbert, Kara (Jon) Keller, Christina (Christopher) DeVito and Anna Gabbert.

Marie loved music, people and was a world traveler. When she first moved to Green Valley, she joined the Valley Chordettes, a womens’ singing group. Later, she joined the Green Valley Hiking Club and she was especially proud of her 3,000 mile patch.


She loved her church, the First Church of Christ, Scientist and had served on the Inter-Faith Council. Marie felt her life was truly blessed with worldwide adventure, family and friends. Her life is an inspiration to us all. Her love, adventurous spirit and generosity will always be remembered and appreciated.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army. There will be a memorial service at the Green Valley Mortuary on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2008, at 3 p.m.
