By Nick Prevenas, Green Valley NewsLast Saturday’s Theodore Roosevelt Golf Tournament at Quail Creek Golf Club hoped to prove that golf and politics can mix. The event, dubbed “Putt Softly and Carry a Big Stick,” attracted dozens of Southern Arizona golf enthusiasts. The tourney followed a four-player scramble event with a shotgun start. Dave Gowan, Jason Thompson, Mark Worth and Ryan Young took place in the Callaway Handicapped scoring, with John Chernoski, Lew Brennison, Roger Oravetz and John Robbins finishing second. In the mixed flights, Christi Tucker, John Emery, Judy McLaughlin and Jim Green took top honors, edging out Bob Bishope, Faye Bishope, Herb Pahoresky and Margaret Pahoresky. Jim McClenathan won the long-drive competition, with Ken Haley hitting it the closest to the pin. Kathy Stotz took both titles for the women. Prominent Republican politician John Munger was the keynote speaker at the awards luncheon. It was announced that Munger is considering running for governor of Arizona in 2010. nprevenas@gvnews.com | 547-9747

No wonder you don't like other people's opinion [internet chat]. " Eric S wrote on Jul 26, 2009 3:16 PM: " I hope you don't vote next year Corky. You clearly do not deserve it. To leave Rickey Henderson off your ballot is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen. You honestly think that Matt Williams was better than Rickey Henderson??? Ridiculous. Your half hearted apology afterwards was just as pathetic. " Submit a Comment |
