Diseases not a statistical game

Beverly DeLong Tonelli and Donald Weston on 5/11 and 6/6 respectively questioned statistics provided in a guest commentary by Don Severe. The statistics related to infectious diseases brought into this country by illegal aliens. Mr. Severe may have obtained those statistics from the national Web site of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps or he may have obtained them the same way I did yesterday.

I did a very simple “google” search using such key words as infectious diseases, illegal aliens, tuberculosis and leprosy in various combinations. The results were overwhelming. One confirmation after another prompted me to quit documenting the findings after 37 articles.

The one most compelling and authoritative was by the late Dr. Madeleine Cosman PHD, JD, MA, BA, with a career in Medical Law. Those interested in reading this particular document may “google” Dr. Madeleine Cosman and look for the particular article called “Hospital to the world welcomes illegal aliens.” This article provides no less than 61 supportive footnotes providing names of other doctors and medical institutions.

If you are so inclined to watch a 10-minute video of one of her speeches, it can be found within the first 15 “google” searches. It is a dynamic video and worth the time. Look for UTube Dr. Madeleine Cosman and illegal Aliens and Tuberculosis. Although both critics of the guest commentaries questioned the statistics, they dwelled mainly on the reported number of cases of leprosy presently in our country. Dr. Cosman clearly confirms the often reported number of 7,000 and reports in her video that one of her prior students runs a major leprosy clinic.

One must question, however, why Ms. Tonelli and Mr. Weston quibble over numbers. For argument sake, let’s deny all of the evidence available and cut the numbers of all the cases of diseases reported by 90 percent. Is it any less worrisome to the health of our citizens? Do I have less concern for the health of my grandson because of our foolish actions regarding illegal aliens? Absolutely not!

Last fall, my wife and I attended the Green Valley Mall Market day where a variety of tents were erected that provided us an opportunity to visit with various organizations in our community.

We approached one that boasted that they provided water, sustenance and medical services to illegal aliens in the desert but refused to report them to the proper authorities. I inquired of the three ladies manning the booth why there was a pair of gauntlet rubber gloves on their display table. They replied that gloves like those were used when any of their volunteers were providing assistance to aliens in distress.

The Border Patrol, the Wackenhut guards and the Sheriff’s deputies wear rubber gloves when coming in contact with illegal aliens. Now we learn that this citizen’s group does so as well but then allows the aliens to walk freely into our community.

On the other hand, Mr. Weston and Ms. Tonelli insist that it’s the number of cases of diseases that’s important and not the fact that they are coming into our country unabated. That’s counterintuitive and very troublesome.
