We’ve been betrayed

I congratulate Bettye Jo Preis for her letter of Sunday, July 13, regarding the Rosemont Mine for “telling it like it is.”

She did, however, leave out one other little detail about the guy coming into the backyard and asking to dig a chasm, using up the water, polluting the air and destroying the scenic route No. 83 with heavy trucking, etc…in order to make himself some money. To add insult to injury, the “deal maker: is not even an American. So for wreaking all this havoc he promises a few jobs and makes other promises about putting money back into local business.

What if there are many of us, like a majority for instance, that would prefer to keep our backyard as it is? I take it that we who are citizens, live here and enjoy our backyard of the beautiful Santa Rita Mountains really have no say in this “deal.” The U.S. Forest Service has betrayed the very people, (us) who pay them and whom they are suppose to protect by approving this Rosemont mining operation.

Whatever happened to the will of ‘We the People?” If a vote were to be taken on the “deal,” I am betting it would be history in a hurry.
