NewsGreen Valley News As AAA Arizona says, Americans are celebrating their freedom this weekend, “but one thing they will not be free from is the unrelenting price of gasoline.” Statewide, the average price for a gallon of regular is $4.087, up from $2.956 on July 4, 2007. “Arizona motorists are currently paying $1.31 more per gallon of fuel” than they did last year “and more than double they were paying just five years ago.” Nationally, the average price for regular is $4.092 a gallon. Lowest gasoline prices in the state are found in Tucson, where the average is $3.824 a gallon. Highest is Flagstaff— $4.218 per gallon. AAA Arizona, the auto club, said that while it was predicting fewer holiday travelers this holiday weekend, “a significant portion of the population is still planning to travel despite the fact that gasoline is at or above $4 per gallon in 37 states including the District of Columbia.” Cheapest gasoline in the 48 states is in Oklahoma, $3.878 a gallon.
